Diamanda Galás has been making avant-garde work since before you were born. Today, she released a cover of Miles Davis' "Round Midnight," from her upcoming All the Way, a record that subverts jazz and traditional songs lodged in the collective consciousness. Piano keys are slammed between well-played sections, making the song an uncomfortable trip. The approach creates a jarring dichotomy, some bits sounding delicate and well-thought out, other notes coming off abrasive and scary. It's an interesting piece, one that's sure to unnerve you.
