Vulnerability needn't sacrifice volume. For proof, look no further than Cayetana's sophomore album, New Kind of Normal. The Philadelphia trio's latest effort is not so much a collection of pop-punk songs as it is a document of their collective struggles with mental health — or, as they put it in a press release, "struggling with that and settling into a new kind of normal where you can finally recognize your own your destructive behaviors and accept love into your life." That thematic contrast between rage and love is inherent in the tense, compact sonic proceedings, rooted in the same catchy, cathartic compass that guided forebears like Sleater-Kinney and Superchunk.

In advance of New Kind of Normal's May 5 release, Cayetana have made the entire record available to stream, via Hype Machine. It follows previously shared singles "Certain for Miles," "Mesa" and "Bus Ticket." Listen below.
