Xiu Xiu Drop the Uncomfortably Beautiful ‘Wondering’

Earlier this year, experimental trio Xiu Xiu pulled a swerve on all of us and put out a record covering the soundtrack of cult TV show Twin Peaks. A cover album seemed like a misnomer; they were able to take the skeletons of songs laid out by Angelo Badalamenti and inject them with the sounds they've been working to advance their entire career. Today, they're showing that progression off in their own music, with the new single "Wondering" off just-announced forthcoming album FORGET, out this February. The song incorporates elements of noise and powerelectronics into a traditionally poppy beat, creating a dichotomy that's uncomfortably beautiful. Spectral vocals recurrently haunt the track, showing that the band's creativity is still flowing deep.
