Most of the time, live records are pretty cut and dry — band plays a live set, there's a little bit of mixing, maybe some things are tuned differently, you get to hear crowd noise in between songs. For Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter Julia Holter, it provides a platform to evolve her songs into something more. Her new live record will be titled In the Same Room, the first of Domino's new Domino Documents imprint, which will "capture the ever-evolving arrangements" of the label's artists. Today, she's released a new recording of "So Lillies," originally from her 2012 LP, Ekstasis. The song bounds upwards, the full instrumental spread coming out pristine. Take a listen.
