There's a kind of magic to flipping through old records, finding an album you've never heard of from before you were born, getting lost in the sound of the forgotten. When you pick up a record by Weyes Blood, that experience of discovery and uncertainty is worn on the sleeve. Today, Natalie Mering released new single "Do You Need My Love" from her upcoming WB record Front Row Seat to The Earth.

From the start, you feel yourself slipping back in time to some late '60s psychedelic record bin. Heavy piano tracks line the track, allowing her voice to soar out, expressing the deepest longing. But it's not all retro-niceness; as the song proceeds, whirring synths and heavy atmosphere generate a vague sense of danger, the song expanding on itself to reveal that there's more at stake. But before you can fully process it, "Do You Need My Love" snaps back to serenity, putting the mask back on and concluding. It's a perfect example of how to misdirect listeners, lulling them into a nice state of contentment before flipping them over.
