Weyes Blood Celebrate Hollow Dinosaurs That ‘Used to Be’

In her previously shared video for "Generation Why," Weyes Blood ventured out to the shores of the Salton Sea, an inland salt lake out in the California desert which — thanks to capitalism — devolved into a quagmire of trash and despair. But hey, however dismal, the wasteland has its charms: You literally find old phones lying on the beach, just waiting to be snatched up (what a steal), and also dinosaurs!

Naturally, then, it's no surprise that Weyes Blood stayed put for her "Used to Be" visual. Directed by Laura-Lynn Petrick and shot on 8mm film, the softly lit clip for the Front Row Seat to Earth track finds Natalie Mering dressed in an electric-blue suit, jaunting around in the heat. In between cuddling and crawling inside giant dinosaur sculptures, she goes beachcombing and pauses for a whiff of that Salton Sea air: somewhere between trash and magic.
