Muuy Biien Sets Its ‘Moral Compass’ South of Heaven
It's hard to say if Joshua Evans knew that his solo ambient project, Muuy Biien, was destined to catch rabies and transform into Athens, Ga.'s most sinister, unpredictable rock band — but six years in, the infection (or inoculation) is perfectly ingrained into their musical DNA. Last October's Age of Uncertainty is less an album than a barefoot jog through the gloomiest of post-punk fever swamps, riddled with snapping alligators and broken glass — and yet, we keep coming back.
Muuy Biien's new video for "Moral Compass" poses a similar question, but the framing is way more gothic and grotesque — and maybe a little bit romantic. Directed by Benjamin Roberds, the visual puts the viewer in the shoes of a soon-to-be-husband heading off to marry his future wife: Evans, au Nosferatu-ale, in a gown and makeup. All goes well (and weird), until an unexpected guest strikes just after the first kiss. Was it the bride's con? A suicide attempt? Aliens? I'll leave you to decide. Watch below.
Muuy Biien released their Age of Uncertainty LP on Autumn Tone last October.
