Tim Hecker’s ‘Veil Scans’ Is an Endless Ambient Nightmare
The music nerds at Adult Swim have been killing it so far with this year's installment of their annual Singles Program. Four months in, the network's delivered free downloads for new songs from a dizzyingly diverse roster: everyone from metal bands like HEALTH and Sannhet, to electronic musicians like DJ Paypal and Jlin, to rappers like Run the Jewels and Vince Staples. And we've still got nine weeks to go!
This week's cut, "Veil Scans," comes courtesy of glitch wizard and Singles series alum Tim Hecker, who served up "Amps, Drugs, Mellotron” back in 2014. The creepy-ass track finds the musician up to his usual ghastly mischief, its dreadful frisson powered by a dissonant, screeching loop reminiscent of classic horror films (more specifically, the hair-raising scenes in which our protagonists realize they're about to meet their maker). It's a nice return to form following the streamlined sound of this year's 4AD debut Love Streams — not to mention a shoo-in for your Halloween party playlist. (Hey, it's never too early to start planning!) Listen below, and download the song here.
Tim Hecker released his latest album, Love Streams, back in April via 4AD.
