For the most part, a good song is storytelling. Not just in that there's a beginning, middle and end, but an arc, a dramatic swell — eventually a satisfying conclusion that makes it worth the wait. Esben and the Witch subscribe to this methodology with "The Wolf's Sun," an expansive and pulsing track that starts with a bang, slows to a droning and hypnotic verse, and then builds builds builds until the walls start crumbling — meaning the foundation shakes with 10-ton riffage. Its a slow burn, but a satisfying one, with a melody that muscles its way into your head after being quietly coaxed in by vocalist / bassist Rachel Davies' haunting voice. Check out the new jam from Older Terrors below, and look for the LP via Season of Mist on November 4.
