With a name like Party Smasher, Inc., there isn’t a huge mystery around what happens when their roster plays a showcase. Attendees of our joint showcase with them and Loudwire were well aware of this fact, as last Friday, Austin was totally wrecked by the lineup of God Mother, Primitive Weapons and Giraffe Tongue Orchestra.

The night started off harsh, Stockholm’s God Mother setting the tone with body-ruining hardcore played at amped speeds, mixed with sludge, death metal and all your favorite subgenres of heavy. "Playing from the stage" was just a suggestion for the Swedes, as their frontman spent the bulk of his time in the crowd. They were followed up by Brooklyn post-hardcore thrashers Primitive Weapons, who delivered songs from their forthcoming Party Smasher effort.

All roads led to the U.S. debut of Giraffe Tongue Orchestra, a sight to see. With a lineup flaunting Alice in Chains’ William DuVall, Mastodon’s Brent Hinds, the Dillinger Escape Plan’s Ben Weinman, the Mars Volta’s Thomas Pridgen and Dethklok's Pete Griffin, they were wild and weird, capping a crusher of a show. Shout-out to Gibson, Mike's Hard Lemonade, Blackstar, Korg and more for the assist in a true day of badassery.
