Chilean Shoegazers Trementina Unveil ‘Oh Child’

While we question at least one-third of George Michael's theorem that sex is natural, fun and best when it's one-on-one, we know that intimacy is inexorably enmeshed with most of our favorite art. In today's Late Night Dedication, we test the carnal knowledge of Vanessa Cea, vocalist of Chilean shoegaze band Trementina. The trio's latest song, "Oh Child" (streaming below), appears on their third album, 810 (recorded 810 miles south of Santiago, where "the sky is charcoal gray," according to Martin Newell). What albums can you not listen to because of a break-up?
I can't stand "Luna" by Smashing Pumpkins. I found a boyfriend I had having romantic conversations with a girl, and this song was the song that used to "remind her."

Thoughts on PDA at a gig?
I don't even like to hold hands in public, so ... get a room.

Is music during sex corny?
Yes.

Does going to a show constitute a date?
Of course, the best kind of.

What musician would you want to make out with most (dead or alive)?
Siouxie Sioux, definitely!

Does music taste matter in a relationship?
If you are a musician, music is your language. If you can't translate the way you vibe to someone, it's really difficult to make it work.

Would you ever date someone that was a fan of your band?
Yes, why not?

Have you ever cried while listening to a song? If so, what was the last time?
The last time I cried with a song was at a Yo La Tengo show, while they where playing "I'll Be Around." It was so beautiful!

Have you ever had to talk to somebody about a song you’ve written about them?
Not really. If I've written a song about / for someone, everything I had to say was there. If the person doesn't receive the message, [there] must be a reason for it.

What musician knows the most about love?
Vashti Bunyan.

Do you like love songs or hate songs more?
I don't really know; maybe the "love-hate." It's my favorite kind. [Laughs]
