Sólstafir have been making atmospheric, forward-thinking heavy metal for the past 20 years. Two years ago, they released Ótta, one of their most complex albums to date, pushing them even further from the confines of "metal" toward something more amorphous. You can hear that evolution pretty plainly on their new live video for "Dagmál." What's interesting about this format is observing how the record's stranger sounds are executed live. The band sounds on top of their game, the music closer in kinship to post-punk and indie. It's a beautiful track, and a video that marks not only the end of the album cycle, but a look towards what the future will bring.
