It's safe to say that Sam Owens knows a thing or two about the sound of the city. The Celestial Shore member has spent the past five years at least navigating the heavily populated Brooklyn circuit alongside his bandmates; two albums in, the trio has successfully pushed to the front of the pack, thanks to a distinctive, deft wielding of chamber pop and taut indie rock.

Two years after 2014's Enter Ghost, Owens decided he needed a change of pace from the urban jungle and the band it begat; so, he rechristened himself Sam Evian and boarded a train upstate to the cavernous barn where he'd lay down tracks for Premium, his solo debut. As expected for an album recorded far away from the hustle and bustle of the Big Apple, the full-length sees Owens and his band sticking to a relaxed, informal approach to Americana. At times, he nods to Kurt Vile ("Sleep Easy"); other songs, like "Cactus," recall Heart of Gold-era Neil Young. Aside from its session musicians, Premium features contributions from Delicate Steve, as well as members of Here We Go Magic, Hospitality and Cass McCombs' touring band.

In advance of Premium's release this Friday (September 30) via Saddle Creek, Owens is streaming the record in full via Brooklyn Vegan; listen below, and check out his bizarre teaser, made with Google Translate. He's also announced a bevy of tour dates; scroll down to see if he's coming to a town near you.

Sam Owens' debut solo album as Sam Evian, Premium, is out September 30 on Saddle Creek.
