Somewhere between post-rock, math and straight-up jazz lie Japan's Mouse on the Keys, comprised of Akira Kawasaki and Atsushi Kiyota of Japanese emo faves Nine Days Wonder and Daisuke Niitome. Their approach is minimalist, pensive and beautiful on the über-catchily titled "Four Preludes,Op.5 : No 3 in B Minor," a piano / bass / keys number that might sit just as well on a Mogwai record as it would on something by Thelonious Monk. The track is culled from a split with Japanese instrumentalists LITE, and is available to stream below for the first time. Check it out and order yours via Topshelf.

Mouse on the Keys head out for a string of West Coast dates in November. Catch them on the road and go deep.
