2017 is shaping up to be a big year for King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. The Australian psych masters are prepping not one, not two, not three, not four, but FIVE new albums for the coming year, as well as a massive tour. First up on their release itinerary is Flying Microtonal Banana, due out February 24 via ATO.

The record marks the band's first ventures into microtonal tuning, a compositional technique rarely seen in Western music. “Earlier this year, we started experimenting with a custom microtonal guitar our friend Zak made for Stu [Mackenzie, frontman],” explains drummer Eric Moore in a press release. “The guitar was modified to play in 24-TET tuning and could only be played with other microtonal instruments. We ended up giving everyone a budget of $200 to buy instruments and turn them microtonal. The record features the modified electric guitars, basses, keyboards and harmonica, as well as a turkish horn called a Zurna.”

Without further ado, here's the opening salvo to King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard's yearlong campaign: the menacing, trippy "Rattlesnake," which arrives accompanied by an endearingly cheesy video that finds the Melbourne band performing in front of a green screen post-apocalyptic desert landscape. Watch below, and scroll down for the band's album art and track list, plus their upcoming tour dates.

Flying Microtonal Banana, the first of five new King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard LPs set to arrive in 2017, arrives Febuary 24 via ATO.
