No one was expecting Guardians of the Galaxy to have the impact it did. A hodgepodge of the Parks and Rec guy, former WWE champion Batista, a talking CGI raccoon and other weirdo characters didn’t immediately seem to portend the most marketable movie in the world. But it wound up being a huge success, resulting in this weekend’s premiere of its sequel, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

One of the aspects that audiences wound up connecting to most was GOTG's excellent soundtrack. Chris Pratt, as Peter “Star-Lord” Quill, carries around an old-school Walkman filled with songs from the '70s and '80s, ranging from Elvin Bishop's soft-rock classics to the punky jams of the Runaways. With the new movie comes a new mix, and its impact in the film is … fine, mostly. Obviously, the casting is as excellent as ever, including our buddy Jimmy Urine, but song selections seem to be either too recognizable or too boring. So, we put our heads together and came up with a killer alternate soundtrack, spanning the era's best music from the likes of Christopher Cross, KISS, Toto, Steve Winwood, Enchantment and more.
