It's pretty impossible to be upset about a Future Islands live performance, and their appearance last night on Conan was a reminder of this. The band showed up to perform "Cave," a single off their most recent record, The Far Field. Singer Samuel Herring was on it, as usual, not afraid to go absolutely nuts onstage. His voice was equal parts growling monster and strangely beautiful — often at the same time — as he punched the air like a madman. It's a dramatic, wild rendition that lives up to the band's standards of crazy-ass late-night showings.
