Chook Race Jangle-Pop Their Way ‘Around the House’

Melbourne’s Chook Race return with their second LP in as many years, Around the House, due on September 2 via Trouble in Mind. Easygoing indie pop jangle is their m.o., and it’s hard to avoid comparisons to a certain New Zealand label’s dominance in this arena, especially bringing to mind the Chills and the Bats. Around the House features the dueling vocal harmonies of guitarist Matthew Liveradis and drummer Carolyn Hawkins, each breaking out for their own solo vocal moments and holding their own successfully amidst the sparse instrumentation. It’s simple, well-crafted pop that alternates between sunny jangle and melancholia. Oh, and it's a total bonzer.
