The Blind Shake Shimmy and ‘Shoot All the Birds’

At first, it's hard to tell where to go with the Blind Shake's new track. In the opening moments of the new one from the forthcoming Celebrate Your Worth, the swinging drumbeat calls to mind an adorable woman in a sweater set doing the twist with a bad boy greaser in black leather. That fun image is perfectly juxtaposed with a snarling and distorted bass line that screams with authority: "Let's kill everything and leave no witnesses." By the time the vocals show up, it's apparent that "I Shot All the Birds" is meant to be a hidden pop song sung with with a clenched fist and jaw.
