The inauguration tomorrow is basically going to be the apex of a several-months-long anxiety trip. Instead of watching the car fire it will surely be, an alternative might be to blast these two new covers from Brooklyn experimental duo Azar Swan. The group picked some incredibly poignant songs to describe a collective feeling: David Bowie's "This Is Not America" and Leonard Cohen's "The Future." On the Bowie cover, both Zohra Atash and Joshua Strawn trade off vocals, a deep synth capturing the mood effectively. On the flipside, their Cohen cover incorporates a variety of different samples over the beat, the bizarre danciness of the original bleeding into the new interpretation. Both offer an outlet for grief and energy in evoking heroes now passed.
